What To Do If You Change Web Hosting Company, and join us!
| If you are changing or intend to change your web hosting company and join Ineo Host, the following steps will help you minimise disruptions to your website and emails.
1. Backup your website and download all emails from your current host.
2. Sign up with Ineo Host. Your account welcome email/receipt will contain a pre-propagation web address that you can use.
3. Log in to your new control panel using your pre-propagation address and upload your website files.
4. Set up your emails in the control panel.
5. Change the Domain Nameservers (DNS) of your domain to our nameservers specified in your welcome email. You can do this yourself if you have access to your domain name control panel. Otherwise, get your old host to change them. This change will take effect within a few hours to 2 days.
6. Once you have confirmed that your domain is now using your new hosting account to serve your website and emails and everything else is working well, you may proceed to cancel your old hosting account.
7. With that, you will have successfully changed web hosts with no downtime to your website and emails at all!
Further notes: Remember that once your emails are being serviced by Ineo Host in Point 6, you will have to configure your email programs with your new settings.
If your existing website involves a database, follow these steps to ensure a smooth transition.
If you transfer your domain to us to manage, changing of DNS in Point 5 will be settled by us.
Additional Note: For those interested in changing their hosting company and would like to consider hosting with Ineo Host, do check out our web hosting website.
Additional Email Safeguards
If possible, it will be useful to setup a forwarder for all your emails to go to an off-site email address (eg, your personal Gmail or Yahoo account).
This helps in that during the changeover, if any emails should still go to the old server while you are already accessing the new server, the mails will be forwarded to this other email address.
Otherwise, you will have to find way to check your old server (probably via the old server's IP address) to check if any emails were diverted there.
